Scoutmaster Brant Hunsaker

Troop 13 (West Linn, Oregon)

Brant Hunsaker, Eagle Scout (1989), has been serving youth in West Linn and surrounding communities as a Scoutmaster since 2006. He first led Troop 134 of the Willamette Falls Ward and later founded Troop 13 after the LDS Church ended unit sponsorship of Scouting. Today, Troop 13 operates as a fully independent troop and welcomes families from all faiths.

Under Brant’s leadership, Troop 13 has guided more than 25 young men to the rank of Eagle Scout since 2019, including his son Reese (Eagle ’22). Two of his other sons are currently active members of the troop, reflecting his family’s deep commitment to the Scouting program.

Beyond the troop level, Brant serves the broader Scouting community as a board member of the Cascade Pacific Council (CPC) and currently holds the role of Vice President of Finance.

Professionally, Brant works in commercial banking with Wells Fargo. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and an MBA from Duke University. He and his wife, Dr. Shona Hunsaker, live in West Linn.

Troop 13 meets in West Linn and includes Scouts from neighboring communities, including Beaverton. The troop offers a welcoming environment focused on outdoor adventure, leadership development, service, and character building — open to all families interested in Scouting.

Committee Chair Sarah Salo

Troop 13 (West Linn, Oregon)

Sarah Salo has served youth and families in West Linn and nearby communities through Scouting leadership roles since 2014. She is the proud mother of two Eagle Scout sons, who earned the rank in 2022 and 2024, and a daughter who is preparing to begin her own Scouting journey. Her family’s connection to Scouting spans generations, including her husband Troy, an Eagle Scout from 1991.

Sarah was a founding leader of Troop 13, working alongside Cascade Pacific Council board member Brant Hunsaker to establish the troop after the LDS Church ended its sponsorship of Scouting units. Under their leadership, Troop 13 was launched as an independent troop and continues today as a welcoming program open to families of all backgrounds and faiths.

Raised in Kansas as the youngest of four children, Sarah grew up surrounded by Scouting. Her three older brothers and her father were all actively involved, shaping her lifelong appreciation for service, leadership, and community involvement. She finds deep fulfillment in volunteer and charitable work, including her service with Scouting America and the National Charity League.

Professionally, Sarah has spent her entire career in the technology industry and currently works as a Sr. Partner Development Manager at Amazon Web Services. She earned her undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University–Hawaii. Sarah and her husband Troy have lived in West Linn for more than two decades, where they have raised their family and remain deeply invested in the local community.

Outside of work and Scouting, Sarah enjoys traveling with her family and winding down with a good book at the end of a busy day.

Troop 13 meets in West Linn and draws Scouts from several surrounding communities. The troop emphasizes outdoor adventure, leadership growth, service, and strong character in a supportive and inclusive environment for families interested in Scouting.

Charter Representative Wally Walker

Troop 13 (West Linn, Oregon)

Jay Wallace “Wally” Walker started his Scouting journey as a Cub and Boy Scout in Southeastern Idaho, eventually earning the rank of Eagle (1977).  As an adult, he has served continuously since 1988 in leadership positions as Cub Scout leader and Assistant Scoutmaster.  Most recently he serves as Troop 13 Assistant Scoutmaster and Charter Representative.

Wally loves the outdoors, especially when it comes to assisting youth in outdoor experiences.  Scouting is close to his heart as he comes from a long line of Eagle Scouts which continues with his two sons, Derek and Steven, who are both Eagles.

Professionally, Wally earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University (1992) and operates two private practices in Molalla and Milwaukie.  He is fluent in Spanish and has guided optometry students on numerous humanitarian eyecare missions in Central America.  He is past president of the Molalla Rotary Club and serves on a local scholarship committee.  Wally also serves as the treasurer of Portland Youth Philharmonic, a 102 year-old youth orchestra consisting of young musicians from the Portland and Vancouver area.

Wally is married to Dr. Sue Chadwick Walker, and they have three adult children.  (No grandchildren…yet!)
